Why does Apple tell me I can stick 2 video cards in my system if they won’t work.

I mean… they work… but not really. I’ll explain.

Last year I got a Mac Pro 2.8ghz 8core. It’s awesome. When I was looking into alternatives to buying a MojoDX from Avid for a preview monitor it donned on me that Apple gives you the option to put more than one video card in your system. I “need” to have 2 monitors for my edit suite so 1 card wouldn’t be enough. So I got 2 Nvidia 8800gts and slapped them in. Everything was wine and roses. Running Avid is great with a big 46″ Sony LCD as your preview monitor. Also to be able to do HD projects and have a real time preview that stays in perfect sync for only an extra $275 is great. Here comes the best part… it works in Final Cut Pro too. So BAM! I can do a project for anyone asking for either and I did. I did 3 projects, 2 in Avid and 1 in Final Cut Pro and my clients were happy and impressed.

Bionic “Loading Screen” Commando for the XBox 360

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

UPDATE:

Ok so I think I gave this game a bad wrap. I just beat it and well… even though the loading screens suck (and there is something odd about a game that loads FASTER from the disc than the hard drive) and the first 2/3 of the game was repetitive and not very challenging at all… oh man… the last 1/3 ROCKED! Rocked enough to make the first 2/3 feel like a really long training mission just so you would have a good time with the last part. For some reason (SPOILER ALERT) after you make it to The Mohole boss battle and some really great large level designs where you are fighting people from all directions on this oil rig waiting to get evacuated, you finally get to know the point of the game. You’ve been played like a fiddle by your old pal Joe who has been using you and the military to get this hidden power source, you have to to go whoop his ass. A-Whoopin is what happens too. (SPOLIERS DONE mostly) You get to do things in the game like use your bionic arm to steer large vehicles and do mid air acrobatics and a slew of other things that you really should have been able to do from the get go. It feels as though they saved the best for last JUST A BIT TOO MUCH. But it is fun. The boss battles become a lot more interesting and the levels are just inspired. Sadly I do hate the very odd storytelling Capcom does. They never seem to do their characters justice. Randomly you’ll be introduced to characters that are in the game for LITERALLY 3 minutes of a cut scene and have nothing to do with ANYTHING. They seem to do this on purpose. I remember in Dead Rising the same feeling of “What the f*#k?” Anyways… it’s worth playing. I take back half my nay saying.

Thoughts on current events from someone who shouldn’t be speaking out loud – Prop 8 edition

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

I voted no on Prop 8. I just want to be clear about this from the get go. I do not support inequality.

Last night my wife went with a friend to the Hollywood Protest against the California Supreme Court ruling that though the 18,000 gay marriages that happened in California will be recognized, gay marriages are still illegal. Civil unions that provide the same benefits are still ok for anyone BUT in the gay community if two people that love each other want to bind themselves it will not be called a marriage. This, to me, is a case of people not seeing the future of our society and foolishly holding on to whatever sliver of the past they can. In 10 years from now we will all look back on this (I hope) and laugh at how ignorant our society can be at times.
